AAU Mentor for PhD students

PhD mentor program

The Mentor program is an offer for PhD students enrolled at the Doctoral School. The goal of the program is to support you in your career development and ease your transition from PhD student to a career in industry or academia.

The mentor - mentee relationship is based on trust and confidentiality between you and your supervisor and can be terminated at any time if the setup is not working.

The role of the mentor is to provide you as a PhD student with the experiences he/she has gained since the completion of the PhD studies. This typically revolves around topics such as:

  • Work/life balance
  • Jobmarket experience
  • Job seeking
  • Networking

and several other relevant topics.

You can at the same time use your mentor and a sounding board to thoughts and questions regarding your future career , competence developement and other topics relevant for your future career.

    CONTENT OF THE PROGRAM

The Doctoral School does not provide a fixed program for the mentor/mentee relationship as this is a very individual process.
It is however suggested that the mentor and mentee initially clarify and allign their expectations towards the the program.

It is recommended to have around 5 meetings during a 10-12 month period. Should you wish to continue beyond this timeframe it is up to you to decide.
